One of my favourite books of all time is *Frankenstein by Mary Shelley*. I loved the horrible tragedy, the philosophical aspects, and the early 19th-century writing style, especially the picturesque and nature descriptions and religious references.

I’m already aware of the other gothic classics, like *Carmilla* (another fav), *Dracula, Jekyll & Hyde, Picture of Dorian Grey*. I also liked Lolita, Asylum for Wayward Victorian Girls and The Bell Jar. Looking to read more books by women authours. The more melancholic, melodramatic with themes of death, romanticism, and madness the better!!

    1. Mexican Gothic by Sylvia Moreno-Garcia might be exactly what you’re looking for. It’s set in the 1950s in Mexico but is just as atmospheric as any great Gothic novel. I’m going to get a tattoo inspired by this book I loved it so much.
