I’m looking for suggestions for good stand-alone fantasy books. It seems like most fantasies are series, and I just don’t feel like committing that much time to a single story. I haven’t tried a ton of fantasy, and would like to read more.

I enjoy world-building, adventure, some romance and good writing. I’m also open to magical realism.

In the past, I’ve enjoyed Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Fourth Wing (I loved the story, but didn’t like the writing style).

I didn’t like A Court of Thorns and Roses, or Game of Thrones.

Please no graphic scenes of sexual assault (scenes of consenting sex are fine).

    Thanks!

      – Tigana by Guy Gavriel Kay
      – The Sword of Kaigen by M.L. Wang
      – The Neverending Story by Michael Ende
      – Momo by Michael Ende

Also Boy’s Life by Robert McCammon and Dandelion Wine by Ray Bradbury for magical realism.

The **Redemption Of Althalus** by **David Eddings** follows a thief who gets caught up in a war between deities.

    3. Bujold’s World of the Five Gods stories can be read as standalones, they are self-contained. So pretend you are in 2002 and go read {{The Curse of Chalion}} and if you like it there are more self-contained books in that world
