I have recently been very into reality tv (which I am not happy about), and I think the reason for this is because you can root for different players, and with the twists and turns that the game takes, you never are quite sure who is going to win. I am looking for books that emulate or encapsulate this idea.
Most books like this that I see have a main character, so you already can guess who will win/survive, due to plot armor. Are there any books where the winner isn’t spelled out beforehand? Think “Succession”.

The Westing Game probably qualifies – 16 people who are connected in various ways, even if they don’t know it, compete a sort of mystery/scavenger hunt to inherit a huge fortune. It’s YA but still interesting, and you don’t always know who to root for.
