I haven’t personally read or finished The Sparrow by Mary Doria Russell. However, I am familiar with one of the main characters named Emilio. I’m particularly interested in finding books or other media that portray the same scenario in The Sparrow’s plot line.
So a team going into space and only one member making it back to civilization. BUT they come back extremely changed and or mutilated.
Another point of reference would be the video game, Mouthwashing. Its main character, Curly, is one of the last members left alive in space. His character goes through a lot of change and ends up in a similar predicament as Emilio in The Sparrow.
Any and all recommendations would be appreciated. Although I am very adamant on finding one of the books or stories that first popularized this plot device. Many thanks in advance.
