I love "The Pomegranate Witch" by Denise Doyen. I love that it's one long story told in poetry, I love that it's a celebration of language: some beautiful made up words, some alliteration (?), some rhyming schemes that sound good but don't immediately jump out (ie, not typical A, B, A, B). I was really swept away and swept through the story – it was delicious! The fun character designs from illustrator Eliza Wheeler are a bonus.

I'm looking for other seasonal narrative poetry books for kids – really lovely poetry, not sentences that are twisted or bloated to fit meter or rhyming scheme. I'm especially excited for Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas books – other holidays are also welcomed, or even if it's just set in fall/winter, etc! I was hoping Denise had more books, but she's only written one other one, so I'm hoping you can help me grow my library. 🙂
