You can answer with excluding and including rereads.
As for me personally, I could imagine reading maybe 3,000-5,000 distinctive books over my life. Plus, possibly add up to another 1,000 in regard to rereads.
The way I determined this is by combining what I’ve logged on Goodreads + my “to read” list. And then I took into consideration how many unreleased books as of now I might hypothetically be interested in.
The vast majority of what I will likely read is probably acclaimed classics and various academic nonfiction books, probably very little general popular fiction (there is just so much out there!)
