I’m not exactly sure how to describe the genre I’m looking for. Fictional story where the author also puts a lot of effort into describing the place(s) where the story is set. Even better if they get into a little of the history as well. Sort of like Steinbeck’s East of Eden, but set in modern times. Or Bill Bryson’s Notes From A Small Island, but with a story going on along the way.
