Hope no one takes offense to this, but it does seem some of the historical fiction books that usually sounds interesting or mostly be on the shelves tends to fall around during or post World War II, I’ll still read it but I want to stray from it from time to time and read a different time period. Also, some historical fiction books that don't have or have little romance, it does get repetitive when the lead female/ male character meets a new (good-looking) character, you’ll know where things will lead later on in the book.

M M Kaye has great historical fiction; The Far Pavilions, Shadow of the Moon, and Trade Winds
– The Hummingbird’s Daughter by Luis Alberto Urrea is set in late 19th century Mexico.
– Celia Garth by Gwen Bristow is set during the US revolutionary war
– Vision of Light (Margaret of Asbury series) is set in Medieval England
– Amy Harmon has written a number of historical fiction novels, though I believe they have romance and supernatural elements, which some readers will like / not like.
