I read The Stranger in The Woods: The Extraordinary Story of the Last True Hermit by Michael Finkel recently. It was fascinating, and only 150 pages so I could carry it to work, on errands, etc. I’m looking for similar books!
• under 200 pages
• nonfiction, can be a single case study, biographical, anything about a specific subject.
• specific interests are: cryptids, biographies, obscure local/regional histories, food science, archaeology
Looking for easy reads between reading longer books. Thanks!!
(side note: if you have any suggestions similar to Interview with the Vampire or another horror-adjacent story, i’d love to hear those as well! any page length)

#1: The Diving Bell and the Butterfly. 143 pages typed by the author’s eyelid after losing control of every other movement due to locked in syndrome. Inspirational.
+ What You Are Getting Wrong About Appalachia by Elizabeth Catte
Creativity: a Short and Simple Guide by John Cleese was really enjoyable
Make Your Bed by William McRaven was very inspiring
The Anglo-Saxons in 100 Facts by Martin Wall fits almost all of your criteria
My Father and Atticus Finch by Joseph Madison Beck is a little over your page limit at 240 pages but is a really good obscure local/regional history
*The Outermost House: A Year of Life on the Great Beach of Cape Cod* by Henry Beston
*We should all be feminists* by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
