I have been in a reading slump for most of 2024. Currently, I am reading Welcome to the Hyunam-dong Bookstore by Hwang Bo-reum and The House of Mirth by Edith Wharton and I’m really enjoying both, BUT I don’t find myself reaching to pick them up.

I’m looking for something that makes me want to find out what happens next, but is also remarkably well written. The last book I read that fits the bill is The Strange Library by Haruki Murakami. Other favorites of note: The Good Shepherd by CS Forester, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon, Chemistry by Weike Wang, and Inside Out and Back Again by Thanhha Lai.

As far as genres, I’m pretty open. No thrillers, horror, or anything extremely sad as I have trouble sleeping after and I mostly read before bed. I’m also pretty burned out on the entire romcom/romance genre. Bonus points if it’s a little quirky.
