I devoured it on a plane this afternoon. I was an English major and this book deserved wayyyy more attention than some other classics.
It reminded me a lot of Jane Eyre which I already love. Wuthering Heights is getting a reread.
Looking for:
-gothic sea stuff
-moody weather
-folklore elements a plus
-asylums are great
-lots of unexpected twists

Rebecca’s my favorite novel! Check out du Maurier’s My Cousin Rachel as well, which has some common elements. I also recommend Shirley Jackson’s We Have Always Lived in the Castle and for something more contemporary, Eliza Clark’s Penance.
