I’ll be honest, I read a lot of very enjoyable books but they are not particularly substantial when it comes to plot/exploration of complex topics. I really need something makes you think about the story long after you have finished it. I also really enjoy character driven stories. I read Babel by R. F. Kuang this year and it was a five star read for me so something similar would be really good. I enjoy fantasy and do tend to stay away from classics. Thank you for any suggestions.

I read Yellowface by R. F. Kuang this year and I loved everything about it. It never lets you stop thinking and questioning everything, if that’s what you mean by regenerating your brain cells. It’s not fantasy, but definitely character driven.

    2. If you’re looking for a character-driven story with fantasy elements that sticks with you, I’d recommend checking out the *Mer Chronicles* trilogy (*Updrift, Breakwater & Outrush*) by Errin Stevens. It explores complex relationships and world-building through siren mythology, offering a unique take on fantasy with plenty of depth. It’s a bit different but definitely makes you think long after you’ve finished!
