I cannot for the life of me find the thread where someone asked what this story was called and described it as "a princess won't marry so her dad tricks her by making a Perfect Man out of a mirror a bucket of fish guts, and after she has sex with this "man", the truth is revealed and the princess becomes super depressed". Someone recognized the story and the book, and I, lover of weird bs, immediately bought it.
It's {{Cat Person And Other Stories}} or {{You Know You Want This}} by Kristen Roupenian. I feel like my brain will pop if I don't talk to someone about it. Cat Person is such a quintessential Woman story, it fucking broke me. Good Guy? A timeless classic, and the ending was absolute perfection. The Matchbox sign – >! The moment she said she can see something moving, or an egg, I immediately thought – olawd, she's crazy. And I felt so bad for her at the end, drugged and asleep, unaware she WAS right all along, a broken person, a walking shell.!< Death Wish? Could have handed me that and said it's a Chuck Palahniuk story and I'd have believed you 100%.
It's just so, so, SO good! I got it on WOB for £5 and when it came, it still had the charity shop price sticker for £1. What a fucking STEAL, I'm never letting this book go 😭
