He has Dr. Seuss, Barefoot Books, Pete the Cat, The Lady that Swallowed……

But his parents want us to expand his reading, and we find that it's hard to gradually move from these books to chapters. Or even….lesser illustrated books. When I've done some looking it jumps to one black and white sketch every 2-3 pages, and that just won't keep his interest.

Any thoughts? I've considered the comic-strip-style-book. But I don't think he'll like it.

A Wolf Called Wander by Roseanne Parry (and I believe A Whale of the Wild by the same author) has illustrations basically every page, and maybe A Wolf for A Spell by Karah Sutton. Less illustrated but possibly also interesting would be The Robe of Skulls by Vivian French and Odd and the Frost Giants by Niel Gaiman. It might also help encouraging him if someone reads aloud to him, possibly switching off, or encourages him to read out loud. Another possibility would be non-fiction children’s books or books of traditional stories, since those have a lot of images to them.

If he does want to try graphic novels (always a good choice, because they are very fun!) and he likes spooky things, Into the Woods by Emily Caroll is a good choice, with a lot of dynamic illustrations and pagework.
