The Quantum World: Quantum physics for everyone. This gives a great account of how modern physics developed. I have never read Bertrand Russels history of western philosophy. But The Quantum World goes over the history of each discovery and gives a background to each physicist. It also demystifies a lot of the nonsense around quantum mechanics that is so prevalent today.

    2. Michio Kaku’s **The God Equation** (unfortunate title aside) walks through the physics theories over the centuries that sought to model the universe. He keeps it from being dry by providing background on the physicists that proposed the theories.

    3. Six Easy Pieces by Richard Feynman.

It is the only correct answer as far as I’m concerned haha
