The artist-muse relationship is a trope as old as ancient Greece, he draws inspiration from her, she finds validation from him. I've recently read a unique insight on this topic from a feminist, that in a normal relationship, the man impregnates the woman's body, she conceives in her womb and gives birth to a new life; in an artist-muse relationship, the roles are reversed – the muse impregnates the artist's soul, HE conceives in the womb of his mind and gives birth to a piece of art.
