The Alchemist does not stand up to second readings. When I first read it it was very uplifting and inspiring but on reading it a second it really became garbage.
I really encourage you to read it again and examine it critically.

This sub doesn’t like The Alchemist. The first time I read it I was just finishing my senior year of high school and was super stressed about all of the decisions I was going to have to make and I LOVED it. The second time I read it, I was happily established in my life and I just liked it.
What did you like about The Alchemist? If it’s an everything is going to work out in the end sort of feeling you are looking for maybe The Shack? It wasn’t to my taste, but it has a similar higher power watching out for you vibe.
Under the Whispering Door might be a good option if you are looking for something less overtly religious/Catholic.
