I’m looking for something that really gets into the dark and dirty side, as someone who grew up in extreme poverty and have gotten out of it, it would be nice to be able to read something in the perspective of somebody I can relate to in that way

Hand to Mouth by Linda Tirado is a real blunt explanation of what is like to be “the working poor” and she has a great, wry sense of humor that makes it less bleak
Find Layla by Meg Elison is YA fiction but it’s fantastic & *so obviously* written by someone who grew up in unstable poverty
