It seems to me that one of the best ways to gain knowledge on your own is to read about topics and because Wikipedia is sometimes not the best, it is often better to read books by authors who can explain things better. When I ask this question I am using the reading list of r/AskHistorians as a example of a good booklist for a subject. r/askphilosophy also has a good booklist like this one above.

Books in these booklists should be acccessable enough that I won’t require a tutor in order to understand it all.

So, if anyone knows any good booklists for academic subjects (STEM + humanties) that’d be super duper :DDD thankz a lot.

    1. If you want quick and understandable run-downs of complex fields, find a Very Short Introduction to [Insert Subject]. There are hundreds of them on so many different topics. If you want to know more about the subject area after reading it, it will provide further reading suggestions and reference authors who have written more detailed books.
