I read this book about 4 years ago or so, and I remember really enjoying The Navidson Record. Johnny Truant's story… not so much. It felt like a waste of time.

I remember being drawn to this book from the very beginning. It was really good. It took me several days to read it. And I did it mostly at night. It was a really scary experience.

Of course, the main problem with Johnny's story is that it's not meant to be read as a story but instead used to decode secret messages. And I don't consider myself a fan of cryptography.

I do remember having re-read the first chapter of Johnny's notes, though, and I noticed a lot of clever foreshadowing in those first few pages. Particularly the spiral stairs or something like that.

I'm wondering if it's really worth reading the whole book, that is, both the Navidson Record and Johnny's notes, or if I should just completely skip Johnny's notes.

Has anyone re-read this book? Is it worth doing so?
