In the past I’ve tried imagining scenes in great detail however, when reading Ray Bradbury’s *The Martian Chronicles*, I found it difficult to imagine entire scenes since he focused a lot more on the characters actions rather than the setting. This isn’t a bad thing, it just makes me wonder if I should have been focusing less on background information this whole time.

Also, somewhat related, has anyone tried to imagine scenes like this and then been bothered when the author gives a description contradicting what you imagined? It makes me feel like I need to read it again and then I end up skimming over words and missing details that are actually important. To anyone who’s switched from this detailed style of reading to the other, do you feel like you finish books faster and retain the information better?
