I’m looking for books about people or events in history that aren’t depressing. Most recommendations I’ve gotten have been about wars or the Holocaust which I can’t handle right now lol. Thanks in advance!
*Undaunted Courage: Meriwether Lewis, Thomas Jefferson, and the Opening of the American West* by Stephen Ambrose. A monumental human accomplishment without war, murder and mayhem.

*If Walls Could Talk: An Intimate History of the Home* by Lucy Worsley is an interesting and fun read

The “Maisie Dobbs” series by Jacqueline Winspear is largely historical and based in the early 1900’s. It’s not altogether dark and depressing as many historical fiction books are, it has some feel good moments but it’s not fun and lighthearted, either. She’s an amazing protagonist with a huge heart.
About the only other thing I can recommend is perhaps some works by Mark Twain such as “Roughing It” or “Life on the Mississippi”

Ruth Goodman’s books are a lot fun, especially “How to Be a Tudor” and “How to Behave Badly in Elizabethan England”.

Her Royal Spyness is a series of mystery cozies set in 1930s England. There’s usually a murder or crime of some sort to investigate but they all have a happy ending.
