Read through these and LOVED them: Forever War Series, Old Man's War Series, and Frontlines Series. OMW and Frontlines by far some of my favorite books.
I can't exactly nail down what I love most about these series – but probably a sense of believable near future tech and jargon you can just read through without issues? Probably.
Please no suggestion for the Expanse series – have read these and like them, but not quite the same feelings – too much space opera I guess for what I'm looking for.

Tanya Huff’s Confederation Series. It’s much more about individuals and while the war itself is broad ranging each book is very focused to a specific area/event
Columbus Day series maybe.
