Art is my hobby. I'd like to be more informed.
So, I'm looking for an engaging book that would let me gain an overview on art history. The different movements, techniques, how to look at art, etc. The whole range from the 'Old Masters', through Modern to Contemporary Art.
At the moment I am looking for breadth, rather than depth (unless the book or books can achieve both).
So far I saw there are:
a) Many different books full of illustrations, but I am not sure which ones would be engaging and worth checking out.
b) 2 books by Susie Hodge: The Short Story of Art and The Short Story of Modern Art. Would they be a good choice?
