Ever read any Vonnegut or Asimov? They are a little dated, but good.

The Expanse series starts in a near-future solar system and focuses on the politics of the various governments and the inevitable diaspora of each unique people. It’s seriously one of my favorite series and constantly feels grounded in familiar cultures we see today. Earth is still around, yet remains a secondary character throughout.

Greg Bear and Stephen Baxter are both good. I remembered really liking Eon and the Manifold series, respectively.
