Set in the far future in a world where death by natural causes has been virtually eliminated thanks to advances in technology and it’s really hard for people to die. There is still obviously the problem of overpopulation and so to keep it under control, they have these people called Scythes who have to choose people to ‘glean’ and kill. Every scythe kinda has this quota in which they have to keep for number of people year to kill. They’re mostly like these monk kind of people who really respect life and death and their duties. But then there comes this new wave of scythes who do the job because they just like killing and so it sort of splits the scythdom into two factions, the old and the new. Don’t want to give too much away in case you read but it’s a really good book series, so much happens. Technically YA but worth reading if you’re into this kinda stuff.

Wally Lamb, John Boyne, and Octavia Butler have all kept me reading for hours straight! I’ve particularly enjoyed:
Lamb – I Know This Much Is True, The Hour I First Believed, She’s Come Undone
