I (20 male) have been wanting to get into books for quite a while. Many people I know (mostly girls) share a common joy for books, and I'm just clueless to them as they've never been something I was into. I'd like to get into it and be recommended some decent books. I'm down for all kinds of genres, action, mystery, heck even romance.

I'd prefer books that aren't some history books, but it could be medieval themed. I'm open to almost anything, I just would like some recommendations to add to my list. Thank you all!

Helps if you have a genre preference.

Medieval…The Knights of The Seven Kingdoms, George RR Martin

Chivalry, Christian Cameron (dark, real knights not the shining armour sort)

Grimdark Fantasy: First Law series, Joe Abercrombie

Humour Fantasy: Anything by Terry Pratchett

Science Fiction: Andy Weir – The Martian, Artemis, Project Hail Mary

Time TRavel and Medieval: Doomsday Book, Connie Willis

The Ministry of Time, Kaliane Bradley (Humour, spies and SF)

I’ll throw in a mix of books that are standalone as I believe that’s a great start to building a reading habit. I will also mention the genre so that you could take your pick. I primarily read new-adult or adult novels so that’s what I could recommend.

      1. The Ocean at the end of the lane by Neil Gaiman (Speculative fiction, dreamlike)

      2. 7 and 1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle ( Sci-fi Mystery)

      3. Pet sematary by Stephen King ( Horror and a great book to start with Stephen King)

      4. The Picture of Dorian gray By Oscar wilde ( Classic, Gothic fiction). This is a great book to get into classics.

      5. If you want another classic that’s more modern then I would definitely recommend Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier. ( A modern Classic mystery novel set in a Gothic atmosphere. It’s also a great read for fall.)

      6. Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom ( A very beautiful memoir about life, death, falling in love with the idea of love and everything in between)

      7. The last house on needless street by Catriona Wand ( Speculative fiction)

      8. Lock Every door by Riley Sager (Thriller)

That’s a few I feel could perk your interest. Happy reading!
