I’m looking for some great non fiction books about musicians/labels/festivals etc that aren’t necessarily biographies. I’ve recently read ‘The Hacienda – How not to run a club’ by Peter Hook, so I’m looking for things along those lines, not fussed about the genre of music, artist, anything like that, as long as it’s music centric! Thanks!

It’s not quite what you asked, but I really liked Oliver Sacks’ *Musicophilia: Tales of Music and the Brain*. It’s a series of case studies exploring different areas of music and neurology, including synesthesia, perfect pitch being more prominent in regions with tonal language, like China, and musical hallucinations (which struck close to home, as I’ve had them, especially in grad school).
Please kill me: the oral history of punk by legs McNeill was an absolutely wild ride. I didn’t know much about punk music when I picked it up but I tore through it.
