The Road is grisly and intense but one of the best books I’ve ever read. I’m looking for something maybe a little bleak, possibly post-apocalyptic or about people in captivity that shows a bit of promise at the end. I want it to punch me in the gut the way the end of The Road does especially the last speech from the man to his son before he dies.
I recently read I Who Have Never Known Men and it gave me a similar feeling. So possibly something along those lines?
Also: I know McCarthy is a great writer, but haven’t been able to stomach any of his other books because there is so much graphic violence.
