    1. James Gurney’s *Dinotopia* series is a classic.

*Life of Pi* by Yann Martel had a pretty unique one towards the end, as well.

    2. I guess *The Odyssey* is still the one to beat when it comes to stories happening on islands.

Among the books I’ve read recently, *The Adventures of Amina al-Sirafi* has a really weird island. It grants magical powers and is >!governed by an authoritarian bird council. Or something like that. Like I said, it’s weird.!< I wouldn’t say that’s the strongest part of this overall excellent book, but you asked for islands, so a pirate book it is.

England is the best island in literature: Shakespeare, Austen, Woolf, etc etc etc

Gont, home island of Ged, in A Wizard of Earthsea

Manhattan is the best island in the works of Donald E. Westlake (Bank Shot, The Busy Body, The Spy in the Ointment, God Save the Mark, Somebody Owes Me Money, The Hot Rock, Nobody’s Perfect, Why Me)

The island with no name in Lord of the Flies is probably the most awesome island in literature
