I guess *The Odyssey* is still the one to beat when it comes to stories happening on islands.
Among the books I’ve read recently, *The Adventures of Amina al-Sirafi* has a really weird island. It grants magical powers and is >!governed by an authoritarian bird council. Or something like that. Like I said, it’s weird.!< I wouldn’t say that’s the strongest part of this overall excellent book, but you asked for islands, so a pirate book it is.
