I used to love reading but I haven't read anything in such a long time. I don't have a lot of time and I tried to read a book my mother in law gave me but I just got so bored. I don't really know what type of books I like, I know I don't like anything violent or crime type books. I'm not a big fan of sci fi either. I'm a 23 year old female from the uk if that helps. I know I like romance books but I'll read anything that's interesting. I want something that's not too complex but not simple and boring either if that even makes sense haha. I also don't want to read anything sad and depressing. Looking for anything that's engaging, exciting, an easy read and that I won't want to put down!

Well it might seem a bit odd but I would suggest Jurassic Park by Michael Chrichton. It’s interesting, detailed, imaginative, and can be fairly exciting. You 90% chance have seen the movie so, at least for me, makes it easier to envision the characters and play your own movie in your head.

It got me out of a very long reading slump

    2. Emily Wilde’s Encyclopaedia of Faeries! I’m actually in the middle of it, but it was engaging from the start. Fantasy and I’m assuming romance from what I’ve gathered from reviews. 🙂

    3. There may some books which you read in the past which motivated you to read more in the first place..so I would suggest go back to them and understand what made you like them and read similar genres or search google for similar suggestions and read them and over time broaden your reading genres

    4. All the light we cannot see – Anthony doerr

Fantastic but really heavy read about children in ww2. The store recommended my wife not to read it. For emotional reasons

      Nicholas sparks- the notebook

      The shining. – Stephen king

Forests of Serre, Ombria in Shadow, Changling Sea(This one !!!!), Patrica McKillip

T.Kingfisher. Say Bryony and Roses, and most of all Swordheart.

Nice, romance themes, nothing too violent. Not SF. They are Fantasy but not sprawling epics or anything.

    6. My entire book club devoured Fourth Wing.
It is a fantasy book at a dragon war school. Super fun! Fast paced. Spicy (warning if you don’t like that). Diverse characters.

      Everyone loved it!

I had a similar break around the same age. The book that got me back into it is “the 100-year old man who climbed out the window and disappeared” by Swedish author Jonas Jonasson. It’s easy to read, it’s a story comprised of many anecdotes, it’s funny.

None of this is true by Lisa Jewell, i couldn’t put it down! Easy read but so intriguing. Set in London and so good!!

    9. Good morning,
Try All the Blue in the Sky by Melissa Costa. When I read this I immediately thought of this book.

Under the Whispering Door by TJ Klune! Cozy and with a little bit of romance + the story is not boring at all!

Romantic Comedy by Curtis Sittenfield – well written engaging, really likeable characters and plenty of realism, so its not a mushy romance. Really quick to get into as well and moves at a decent pace too.

Try Dione Lister. She is either an Australian who moved to the UK or a Brit who moved to Australia. It gives an interesting take on her work. She is cozy mystery woth paranormal elements

I suggest going back to the book that made you fall in love with reading and exploring more books in that genre. Personally, I enjoy reading books that challenge me in areas where I lack skills or offer a way to escape from reality.
