This is perhaps a somewhat odd request but I'm looking for books with a male character who acts as a kind of father, mentor, coach, master, boss, teacher, professor figure for the preferably male MC.
They don't necessarily have to have the best relationship, I also like it when the mc is kinda bratty or the mentor-type is strict or something. I don't care about the genre either, they just shouldn't develop a romantic relationship. I would love it if the MC was saved somehow.
The only good examples I have are from films – good will hunting, in your hands, whiplash, last samurai (kind of).
Except there's this book, Empty Net by Avon Gale, where the MC has this relationship with his trainer Misha – I loved it.
