Pete Rose, who died yesterday, is best remembered in some parts for his succinct review of Ball Four, one of the best sports books ever written: Fuck you, Shakespeare, delivered personally from the Reds dugout while Bouton was pitching for the opposing team.

After the success of Ball Four, Bouton wrote a follow-up best-seller,  I'm Glad You Didn't Take It Personally. I've linked to two of the many copies that can be borrowed from the Internet Archive.

Jim Bouton died in 2019. He donated some 37,000 papers and other items donated to the Library of Congress: https://blogs.loc.gov/loc/2019/07/new-baseballs-jim-bouton-and-ball-four-at-the-library/

Rose was banned from baseball (and eligibility for the Hall of Fame) for life for gambling, and later convicted of tax evasion.
