Found this scrawling through kindle unlimited, desperately trying to consume all I could before my free trial ended. I’m glad I found this. I had a good time with it.

I enjoyed the character work in this one. The protagonists had an easy-going relationship. I enjoyed following them going into a weird, mysterious situation. Sparling was a great antagonist, his chapters really painted the picture of a lonely, selfish son of a bitch. I was a bit disappointed in his ending though. After Chloe, Ben and Sparlings demise felt more than a little pedestrian.

The book had some really well done creepy elements. Entering the village for the first time stands out in my mind. It could have done with more of such. The creeper at the window was genuinely tense, the descriptions really painted a picture.

As mentioned, I enjoyed the book a good deal, but it wasn’t without its flaws. In fact, the main flaw was a pretty glaring, laughable plot hole. Are you telling me the horrible maimed creeper stands outside their window all night like a muppet, hoping the don’t glance out into the garden instead? What do they do during the day, kip in a bush and clock in for some window time at sun down? I didn’t mind the old bait and switch with the supernatural elements, though I can see it pissing a few people off. I like the body horror elements. The plot holes didn’t ruin the book for me, but it isn’t something I can look back at and not remember.

I’ll be picking up more from A M Shine though
