I have a somewhat of a long commute and am looking for books to read to audible.
Must haves:
- Finished series.
- Fantasy
Loved
- Harry potter series
- game of thrones
- overlord (likely my favorite)
- name of wind
Liked
- Belgariad series
- lord of the rings
- rise of empire
- broken empire
Did not like
- any of Brandon Sanderson books
- circle of magic
Wouldn’t mind a book that has the world laid out from an evil guys perspective. Or where morals are ambiguous. Black/white morality and straight forward “evil rising in the east” is kind of boring.

* The Green Bone Saga – Japanese-inspired fantasy about crime families in a world where wearing a special kind of Jade grants people superhuman abilities.
* The Poppy War – military fantasy series inspired by 20th century Chinese history
* The Divine Cities – fantasy set in a city that used to be protected by gods until the gods were murdered and all their miracles instantly undone. The first uses a murder mystery and investigation as the conceit, the 2nd and 3rd are more political and larger scale
I loved the Scholomance trilogy by Naomi Novik. It’s like Harry Potter if Hogwarts were a living, unintentionally malevolent boarding school constructed on the edge of a void, and if everyone was wary of Harry because of a prophecy that he’d become a dark sorcerer. It’s a finished trilogy, and I really liked how the narrator personified El (the potentially destructive sorceress).
