    1. *Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail* by Cheryl Strayed is a memoir about a woman who was going through a difficult period in life, so she decided to go on an extended hike. She meets people along the way and spends time with some of them, but mostly she walks the trail alone.

For classics, there’s Henry David Thoreau’s *Walden*, about a man who spends some time building a cabin himself and living in it, and mostly being self-sustaining. Friends drop by, who goes to town every so often, but mostly it’s observations and thoughts about everything while detailing how his day went. There’s not a lot of action, though.
