I recently started getting back into reading. I find myself already losing interest, but I think it may because I’m reading the wrong genre for my interests, or I haven’t found the right books.
I’ve let TikTok guide me into dark romance. I thought I liked it when I first started, but with each new book I start, I feel like they all fall into the same formula and it’s predictable. But maybe that’s with every genre?
Some of the ones I’ve read, it’s smut before the plot, if that makes sense? I don’t mind the smut, but I don’t want it to be the whole book. I recently read The Ritual which appears to be very popular, but when I was about halfway through, I was over the smut and flipping through to try to get to the plot. Anytime there was a twist, it seemed to be quickly over and done with. Like the twists ended up not having a significant impact or they were predictable. I liked Haunting Adeline, but lost interest the second half of Hunting.
I also find myself annoyed with how quick the FMC’s will change their mind and go live happily ever after with the MMC. Not that I don’t necessarily want them to, but they seem to give in so easy, and it always works out in the end.
The more I type, the more I’m thinking im the problem lol. I like a story with twists and turns, horror, mystery, desire, smut, and dual POV.
