I am in the mood for a book where the main character is a criminal, or is otherwise morally or ethically challenged. I want to feel like I’m an accomplice to something terrible for rooting for them to succeed.
Preferably a book written in the last 5-10 years.

You might well like *Vanity Fair* by Thackeray. Main character is em perhaps just a tidge self-serving–whether she commits a criminal act is left ambiguous. Strongly-drawn characters, interesting enough story, wonderful authorial voice of genial cynicism.
