Hey I am considering buying 'The Diary of a Young Girl' presumeably by Anne Frank I say it like that because from the few pages you can read as a preview it seems it´s mostly someone talking about events happening during that time and the thoughts of Anne Frank so do we get to actually read her diary? The book in itself is 256 pages on some sites and over 300 pages on other sites so I am also not sure which is the right one.

It is her diary. There is a preview and depending on the edition some comments and pictures as well
Yes, you do get to read her diary, it contains her thoughts of what was happening in the world, the people in the annexe and thoughts on her growing up
As to the size of the diary, when Otto Frank came back to the Annexe, he was given Anne’s diary. Anne had written about her growing into a young woman and the changes that were happening to her body, she also spoke about her blossoming love for Peter Van Damne.
When Otto Frank read this, he decided to censor it as he felt the personal things that Anne wrote about should not be published. This is why you can a censored copy and full version with the difference in length of the book
