i LOVE family stories. I finished We Were the Mulvaneys, East of the Mountains, and I Know This Much is True (which: WOW!!!) this past month and i'm looking for more books like that: dramas unfolding through family lines, generational secrets, refusing to pass down the trauma of your ancestors (or falling victim to it!).

i will read ANY genre, any style, from any country as long as its also in English. poetry prose short stories novels etc. literally ANYTHING. even the grossest vilest horror as long as it has even the slimmest of happy endings (eg. the monster may have killed millions but not the main characters).

all i ask is that it be hopeful. i am consumed with paranoid dread 24/7 and i want to escape into someone else's problems. i want a book that reassures me it'll work out without the damage of asking for reassurance.

(edit: i forgot The Kid by Sapphire–also good example of I like tragedies too, not just happy endings!)

    1. *Pachinko*, Min Jin Lee. About a Korean family that emigrates to Japan, over decades and generations. Edit: Risking a spoiler alert, it works out better for some characters than others. Well, for some it doesn’t work out at all, if that rules it out.
