Need fiction that will fully immerse me, to the point where I can watch it in my head like a movie and feel connected to the characters – books that will get me to think, “Wow, I can’t believe all of that happened and it was ‘only’ a book and I didn’t want it to end” after finishing.

I’ve read a lot of books recently where I’ve felt invested enough to want to know what happens, but I’m actually quite bored with it and have had no emotional connection to it, so then a few weeks after finishing I’ve forgotten about it like I’d never read it.

Looking for literary fiction recommendations but I’m open to all genres to be honest. Would love anything over 300 pages and happy for them to be slow burners – I find that this helps build that deep and immersive connection to the book.

Books I’ve loved that have had this effect on me:

    • Demon Copperhead
    • The Goldfinch
    • Pachinko
    • 11.22.63
    • Betty
    • The Kite Runner
    • A Little Life
    • The Secret History
    • Babel
    • The Summer That Melted Everything
    • The Mountains Sing
    • The Song of Achilles
    • Shuggie Bain
    • A Thousand Splendid Suns
    • The Institute

    Planning to read:

    • Lonesome Dove
    • Covenant of Water
    • Young Mungo
    • Dust Child
    • The Little Friend
