I am 15 years old and I have been continuously trying to get into reading. I know it’s important to read at a reasonable age level to benefit my English skills but most of the YA fantasy books that I have been reading are not as great as the tween/childrens ones I used to read. I really enjoy books similar to Harry Potter, Land of Stories, the mystery of black hollow lane, and other similar fantasy/mystery books that are targeted to a younger audience. If anyone can help me find the genre that I’m looking for or some books rhag are kind of comfy mystery and in a way kind of realistic fantasy that would fit my age level that would be so amazing. Thank you so much!

To be honest, I was (and continue to be) a pretty voracious reader growing up, but I was never able to get into most YA books even as a teenager. There’s nothing wrong with sticking with middle grade books for a while. I recommend [Nevermoor](https://app.thestorygraph.com/books/6a6d5ca1-b2f5-47be-828c-018144d3bbc7) by Jessica Townsend if you haven’t already read it— it’s my favorite series even as an adult.

As for a YA, I’d recommend the [Books of Bayern](https://app.thestorygraph.com/series/1082) series by Shannon Hale. That has a similar sort of fairytale vibe to what you usually find in middle grade.

I also agree that YA fantasy books are not as enjoyable to read as middle grade novels. In fact, middle grade novels are still my favourite kinds of books to read, and I have a master’s degree in a very text-heavy subject! My advice to you is that if you enjoy reading middle grade books more than young adult, please continue to read middle grade as much as your heart desires! You will learn a lot more from reading the stuff you like than stuff you’re only kind-of into.

As for a rec, it’s not exactly comfy, but you might like the Skulduggery Pleasant series by Derek Landy. It’s a fantasy-action-mystery series that starts out middle grade and ends up young adult, so it’s kind of the best of both worlds in that regard! I hope you find something enjoyable to read!
