I'm looking for something new to read, and I figured I'd give this a go and see what fiction the lovely people of reddit can recommend.
Some background about what I'm looking for and my tastes:
TL;DR – I like fantasy books mainly, with Sci-fi being a close second. My favourite authors are Brandon Sanderson, Christopher Paolini and Trudi Canavan.
The longer version – I'm looking for a new fantasy book ideally, but I'm open to other genres too. I'm just finishing up Now, Then and Everywhen that I got on First Reads, and I've just completed a read through of the Inheritance Cycle before that due to the release of Murtagh. Here are a few of the series I've enjoyed over the years as an idea of the things I like:
The Cosmere by Brandon Sanderson
The Black Magician/Traitor Spy/Age of the Five trilogies by Trudi Canavan
The Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini
The Martian/Artemis/Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir
Impossible Times by Mark Lawrence
Everyone Loves Large Chests by Neven Iliev
The Bobiverse by Dennis E Taylor (I also enjoyed the Singularity Trap)
A few books by David Gemmel: I think I've read White Wolf/Swords of Night and Day, Ironhand's Daughter/The Hawk Eternal, and Knights of Dark Renown.
Some series I've read but didn't enjoy so much (they usually felt a little too dense and difficult/tedious to get through):
The Broken Empire by Mark Lawrence
A Song of Ice and Fire by George R R Martin
To Sleep in A Sea of Stars by Christopher Paolini
The Farseer Trilogy by Robin Hobb
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
