Basically as the title – I really enjoy historical fiction (some favourites are Masters of Rome, Sharpe series, Patrick O'Brien). Would really appreciate if y'all would suggest some good historical action novels following soldiers through big battles in WW2. What are the best ones?

    Thanks in advance!!

      Have you read Sven Hassel?

The bad: Hassel claimed his authorship was based on being a veteran of the German Wehrmacht who had fought in the Battle of Berlin in 1945 until he surrendered to the Soviets. However, numerous post-war investigations have proved his claims to be false and outright fabrications.

The Good: Sort of. In total he published 14 novels which have been translated into 18 languages. Hassel’s books are particularly popular in the United Kingdom, where he sold 15 million of the 53 million sold worldwide.

Legion of the Damned won critical acclaim across Europe and the United States and was translated into 15 languages. It has also been optioned for a film. The book is often cited as one of the best of Hassel’s novels.

NOt the one with a “big battle” though. Maybe Monte Cassino? March Battalion or BlitzFreeze?
