I'm currently reading James Ellroy's The Black Dahlia. I thought it was well written in the first fifty pages and found myself very interested in the boxing setup leading up to the investigation. I'm about a hundred pages from finishing and somewhere along the line I just really stopped caring about the story and it's becoming a slog to finish. I know the rest of his quartet of novels especially LA Confidential are highly praised. Are they worth reading if I feel like this about Dahlia? Also any other noir recommendations?
Authors I've enjoyed have been Raymond Chandler, Dashiel Hammet, James M Cain, Chester Himes, Walter Mosley, and Dennis Lehane.
Aside from The Black Dahlia, some books I haven't really enjoyed or been able to finish have been Don Winslow's The Power of the Dog, Clockers by Richard Price, and Red Dragon by Thomas Harris. Thanks in advance.
