I'm looking for suggestions for short stories I could use for a reading club. I'm especially interested in ones written by Latinx and Hispanic authors and LGBTQ+ authors. Some of the kiddos were asking for more diverse texts, so I thought I'd ask about short stories y'all liked.

Sandra Cisneros is an author I already use.

    Thanks!

    1. Latinx is considered highly offensive to Latino/Latinas. Please stop whitewashing our culture.

    2. Octavia Butler is an incredible mind blowing talent in the scifi community. She was born in the 40s and as an African American women, daughter of a housemaid mother and shoeshiner father, she overcame the odds and became a force in the literary world! She was a socially awkward kid with dyslexia and I think takes like hers belong in schools to teach kids that they really can do anything!

    3. Ken Liu has some great short stories. I also highly recommend Levar Burton Reads, it’s a podcast that highlights sci fi short stories and as far as I’ve listened so far Levar has a variety of authors. One I noticed that may fit what you are looking for is “Mrs. Perez” by Oscar Casares.
