We are looking to stock up our books, but are having trouble finding ones without problematic themes. Ages are 9-17. Some examples of things we can't have are: Hunger Games (violence, dystopia, murder, suicide pact), Percy Jackson (mentions blowing up a school, among other things), Twilight (unhealthy relationship dynamics), The Fault in Our Stars (death and illness). Some examples of ones we have are: Wonder, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, the Smile series, the first 2 Harry Potter books, Goosebumps, and the Babysitter's Club (graphic novel version).

We want these to be interesting and current, but still contain positive messaging. Any and all suggestions are welcome! Thanks in advance!

What a lovely idea — and yes, a challenging set of criteria…

I can think of {{Just William by Richmal Crompton}} (and the ensuing book in the series). William is a wee bit troublemaker, but nothing too egregious. His demeanor is relatable, and overall, it’s a fun, lightweight read.

Another option: _Sherlock Holmes_, if you find a version that’s suitable for these ages (there are so many different versions and editions…).

    2. Some books (definitely not all) by Judy Blume might be a good choice! They’re a bit dated at this point, but they were dated when I was a kid and I enjoyed them anyway.

I’m not sure about the content of all of them, but some of the earlier Nancy Drew books might fit the bill.
