Looking for books where the character undergoes a deep personal transformation

I'm looking for a book where the character has a sort of deep existential malaise, a feeling of being stuck or that the world is a disappointment somehow. And then through the events of the book they undergo a radical transformation and begin to see everything with fresh eyes, and a spirit of renewel.
