I started reading as a hobby a few months ago, and when the NYT list of the best books of this century came out I decided to start there. I'm about 40 books down. Now I'm looking for more books to add to the list. What were the biggest snubs?

List for reference it wouldn’t let me add it to the post: https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2024/books/best-books-21st-century.html
Ayiti or Hunger by Roxane Gay
Recitatif by Toni Morrison
11/22/63 by Stephen King. He has had a huge cultural impact and I think he should have been on the list.
Submission, by Michel Houellebecq (French title: “Soumission”). Probably a little too controversial for the NYT.
They missed Braiding Sweetgrass which is an incredible collection of essays that should have been, in my opinion, in the top 10.
Did you see the readers’ list they published after? It has some crossover with the critics list but lots of additional books are on it.
And Lithub compiled a list of 71 books NYT missed: https://lithub.com/what-the-new-york-times-missed-71-more-of-the-best-books-of-the-21st-century/
