Hey y'all. I'm mainly a fantasy/romantasy and contemporary romance reader which I LOVE but I feel like I should try something different. I've read a few different literary fiction books I've enjoyed (the midnight library, remarkably bright creatures) but I'm thinking some sort of mystery? In my head a cozy mystery or fantasy mystery sounds perfect. Any ideas? (I prefer female authors?

Maybe [Fortune Favors the Dead](https://app.thestorygraph.com/books/eb8c7ae9-41b0-442b-b3f1-8e01870fe219) by Stephan Spotswood? It doesn’t have a female author, but it’s definitely a very female led story.
Three Parts Dead by Max Gladstone, maybe? It’s kind of like a magical police procedural. The author is male, but the MC is female.
Gideon the Ninth
Louise Penney for modern mysteries.
If you want a classic mystery with an English Lord detective, try Strong Poison or murder Must Advertise and see if you like Dorothy Sayers work
A Wizard of Earthsea
Maybe the Her Majesty The Queen Investigates series by S.J. Bennett in which the late Queen Elisabeth solves crime.
Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie
If you’re up for some queer romance, you might enjoy A Marvellous Light. It’s a very cozy historical fantasy romance murder mystery.
Other cozy mysteries by female authors you might enjoy:
– A Curious Beginning by Deanna Raybourn
– A Rip Through Time by Kelley Armstrong
– The Lost Ticket by Freya Sampson
– Finlay Donovan is Killing It by Elle Cosimano (highly recommend the audiobook, it’s fantastic)
Jeannie Wycherley’s cozies are great if you like paranormal.
Her ‘Wonky Inn’ series is adorable, set in a small town I’d move to right now if I could. Book 1 is ‘The Wonkiest Witch’.
And/or check out her Wonderland Detective Agency series – it’s set in Wonderland. First one would be Dead As A Dodo. Side note, I love the covers in that series so much (I’m a cover wh0re).
The Rizzolli and Isles series of murder mystery books by Tess Gerritson. I have started on the first book the Surgeon after enjoying the TV sery
